Vallery @ Wild Pug

Vallery Dolls is back at Wild Pug on Broadway and Lawrence this Tuesday the 7th for 'Unpugged'.
Come hear Vallery with Aaron Benham on keys.

Hosted by Stephen Leonard, 'Unpugged' is an evening of great music at Wild Pug beginning at 9:00. It's just off the Lawrence stop on the Red Line. There's no cover, which means you'll have lots of money left to tip Vallery with...

She's even got a new wig and a clean dress for this gig...

Vallery Dolls at 'Night of 100 Queens' 2007

This is from the days before I started singing the songs myself.

'Night of 100 Queens' at Sidetrack has been a yearly tradition for me since moving to Chicago many years ago. This number was meant as a farewell to the days of smoking indoors in Chicago. The smoking ban went into effect two months later. I was in the midst of quitting the filthy habit when I did this routine. Needless to say, it really helped me say goodbye to cigarettes and hello to the 30 pounds of blubber that I gained in the next six months...

Yes, I know that the sound is a bit off. Just relax and enjoy a great song performed by Dinah Washington (another prisoner of the Valley of the Dolls).

Valley of The Dolls [Neely Nuthouse Quotable Remix]

This clip just about sums up the entire movie. All the best quotes mixed with a version of k.d.lang singing the "Theme from Valley of the Dolls". Be warned, it might be considered Not Safe For Work.

Enjoy!

Valley of the Dolls

I thought I'd start with some fun 'Valley of the Dolls' art that I've found in my "travels".
This book and the movie that came from it are such an inspiration/cautionary example to me.

The story of three girls who move to New York City to find fame and fortune,
only to wind up in the Valley of the Dolls...

There's something so delicious about the tragic element to this novel by the late Jacqueline Susann. She once said that she wrote about terrible things happening to glamorous people so that her readers would "feel better about their own shitty lives." Well, you gotta know your audience...

One small step...

Hello kids,
Welcome to my new blog where I will put everything that is Vallery Dolls. Think of it as a combination of found-art and photo essay with a touch of editorial and info on my upcoming shows. Please sit back, open a fresh bottle of whatever, and enjoy!
